NEXO GEO M10 sound system brings cutting edge performance to an historic Scottish theatre

Originally opened in 1872 as Her Majesty’s Theatre, the Tivoli Theatre in Aberdeen closed its doors at the end of the last century and quickly lapsed into a state of disrepair. Following a full restoration, this historic Grade A listed building is back to its sumptuous best, housing a 527-seat auditorium, café and gallery.

Not satisfied to rest on their laurels, the owners recently approached long-established local rental and installation company CLS Aberdeen to configure and install a new sound system, equipping the landmark venue to entertain the residents of Scotland’s ‘Granite City’ for many decades to come.

“When we are faced with matching budget and performance NEXO is our brand of choice” reports CLS owner Charlie Flett. “Appearance and coverage were important considerations at the Tivoli, so we opted for drops of 3 x NEXO GEO M10s on either side of the stage, with two pairs of L18 subs on the floor. With NEXO P10 point source cabinets as in-fills, it’s a system that’s compact enough to fit unobtrusively into the venue, but with the power and throw necessary to cover a relatively complex, 3-tier auditorium.”

Caroline Morgan, MD of the Tivoli added “The 527-seat venue is split over three levels and provides for a wide range of acts ranging from local amateur productions to full touring acts, so the new system had to be able to transition across these very different events with ease. The new setup has transformed the sound in the theatre, visiting acts and customers are already commenting on how much better they sound in the theatre! We are delighted with the NEXO system, it’s really taken the Tivoli up a level”.

Amplification is provided by NEXO NXAMP4X2Mk2 4-channel powered controllers, with phase-coherent processing pre-sets for all NEXO speakers available from front panel touch screens. “It gives us a really good starting point and the system actually required very little additional tuning” adds Charlie.
