Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the annual AV Awards is the most prestigious date in the industry calendar. Hosted by AV Magazine at London’s Grosvenor House, and attended by over 1200 professionals from across the global AV industry, this year’s event saw NEXO’s STM modular line array delivering the evening’s entertainment, including a star turn from comedian Romesh Ranganathan.
AV production company Production Plus provided all the audio equipment for the occasion, choosing the STM Series modular line array for the job, teamed with a Yamaha CL5 digital console.
Grosvenor House’s Great Room is nearly 2,000 sq.m. in area, set up with a side-on stage for the AV Awards. Andy Miller, MD of Production Plus, explains that “coverage is the key to great sound, and one of the great things about the dispersion characteristics of NEXO’s STM Series is that we could work with existing house points and still achieve the coverage we needed without the use of additional rigging. The STM M28 main modules are a compact size, yet they offer exceptional SPL and smooth coverage. The system is totally scalable which helps us configure it for a venue like the Great Room.”
Two small clusters of STM M28, just three modules in each, were flown above the stage, with two groundstacks of 4x STM S118 subs plus 3x STM M28s below. This provided the coverage for the main area of the Great Room, and a number of NEXO PS cabinets were positioned around the perimeter to augment the main system. Digital delays were used throughout.
Production Plus, based in Letchworth, is one of NEXO’s premier AV suppliers in the UK, carrying a large inventory of line array and point-source systems. As a regular contractor at the Grosvenor House Great Room, the company was a logical choice to supply the PA for the Awards.
