Completed in 1932 with origins dating back to the mid-19th Century, Teatro Gayarre (named after the illustrious Navarrese tenor Julián Gayarre) is a much-loved theatre in the northern Spanish city of Pamplona, famous around the world for the annual Running of the Bulls.

The venue’s interior comprises four floors with the first housing the entrance hall and the auditorium itself, with the stage and orchestra pit along with seating for 438. Central stalls on the second-floor seat 980 audience members, with a third-floor balcony for 218 and a further fourth floor ‘amphitheatre’ seating 118.

Under the management of the Gayarre Theatre Municipal Foundation, a continuing program of renovations has included new seats, curtains, paintwork and other elements replaced in the main auditorium in 2005 and, more recently, new rigging and stage machinery systems, video projection, LED stage lighting and replacement of the electrical infrastructure that supplies power to the stage. Finally, a complete upgrade of the theatre’s sound system has recently been undertaken by Girona-based event and AV technology specialists BTM Sound.

“Although NEXO didn’t appear in the initial public tender, we were able to assist Robert (Reig – BTM Technical Director) and his team with a NEXO system design and performance prediction as part of a bid that BTM ultimately won” reports Jordi Vaquero Pujagut from NEXO’s Spanish distributor Soundmeans.

“Given the size and shape of the theater, the tender called for something with much less visual impact than a line array, but also a system that could provide even coverage throughout the venue.

“That’s the main reason why NEXO ePS was proposed as it checked all the requirements, offering great coverage and sound whilst remaining reasonably priced.”

The full system at Teatro Gayarre comprises 2 x NEXO ePS12s as L + R for the main floor, 2 x ePS10 as reinforcement for the main floor, 4 x compact NEXO ID24s as front-fills mounted in front of the stage on custom brackets and 6 x NEXO eLS18 subs on the floor in front of the stage, in cardioid configuration.

Two further ePS6s L+R provide additional coverage on the first floor, with 2 x ePS12s L + R on the second floor covering the upper tiers. A single ePS12 is available as a truss-mounted centre speaker when required, and amplification and processing come from 2 x NEXO NXAMP4X4Mk2 and 3 x NXAMP4X1Mk2 Powered TD Controllers, all fitted with NXAEDT network cards.

“BTM made a great job of the installation, and we visited to assist with final system tuning and to train theatre staff on system use and configuration, including using NEXO’s NeMo app for remote control and monitoring” comments Jordi in conclusion.

“Theatre staff told us that before the installation they lacked coverage, especially on upper floors, but now the coverage is excellent everywhere.”
