NEXO’s ETC training seminars in Latin America have been attracting record numbers of students, with the most recent events taking place in Venezuela, Chile and Ecuador.
Earlier this year, the largest session in south America was organised in Caracas, Venezuela, by NEXO distributor Sun Music International, attracting a very impressive total of 206 students. Presenting to a full lecture hall, Roberto Tschopp from NEXO LatAm delivered the ETC1 curriculum. Designed for junior sound technicians, the 2-day event progressed from theoretical classes in acoustic fundamentals, point source and line array theory, to practical hands-on training with NEXO line array systems.
In Quito, Ecuador, nearly 140 students attended. Vallparr Importaciones set up the ETC2 sessions, which started in the classroom and moved outdoors to a large-scale demo set-up of STM Series. Drawing on their new skills, ETC students were able to manipulate a rig with 12x STM M28 main modules plus 6x STM B112 bass modules, matched with RS Series subwoofers.
In Santiago de Chile, NEXO distributor Real Audio Sistemas organised a 2-day ETC2 event at the Arturo Vidal Stadium. Real Audio director Claudio Valencia designed a display of line array systems, principally using NEXO’s modular line array STM Series. Students were able to work with a PA of 6x STM M28 main modules plus 3x STM B112 bass modules, targeted at 70 metres. Different subwoofer arrays were demonstrated, set up in a NEXO Arc and as L/C/R groundstacks in Back-to-Back mode.
NEXO LatAm master trainer Roberto Tschopp identifies “a real thirst for knowledge, not marketing – I find that our students are very engaged by real-world examples. The ETC courses combine NEXO philosophy with hands-on practical training – and, in the ETC2 sessions, we have the chance to present different acoustic techniques and discuss new ideas.”
The ETC curriculum is offered in two separate seminars. Stepping up from ETC1, the ETC2 is aimed at advanced students, usually professional engineers, often NEXO users. This course ranges across a wide range of practical topics such as sound propagation, electricity and power generator calculation, as well as practical issues like security and rigging. The syllabus focuses on system design, using NEXO’s proprietary NS-1 prediction software, system management and networking, using other NEXO tools such as NXAMPs, ES Monitor and NeMo.
