With thirty-five years’ experience in the corporate events sector, the people at MSP Global know all about the need to adapt. But when Covid brought the industry screaming to a halt, the Liverpool-based events services company overcame its biggest challenge yet, remaining afloat by successfully pivoting to become one of the north-west’s busiest lockdown live streaming facilities.
Now, with the events business roaring back, company founder and MD Colin Reader is ready to write the next chapter in the MSP Global story, investing in new inventory and backing a highly experienced team to build on a prestigious client list that already includes Matalan, Speedy Services, United Utilities, Santander, Monster Energy and Everton Football Club.
“We started looking to upgrade our sound equipment inventory before Covid hit, and I’d always remembered what a strong product NEXO was from my time living and working in South Africa back in the 90s” says Colin, who is also a professional musician. “So, after lockdown, Andy (Simmons) and Rich (Soper) from NEXO came up to Liverpool to demo the P+ Series and, quite frankly, we were all blown away. On the strength of that, we visited the NEXO campus in France and were really impressed by what we saw and heard. There was absolutely no ‘hard sell’, just a series of conversations that made it clear to us that the NEXO team really understood our business, and what we need in terms of technology and support to drive it forward.”
Critical listening sessions were arranged, starting with the P+ point source speakers, moving up to NEXO’s GEO M line arrays. “When they first powered up the tiny P8, I thought – OK – where have they hidden the other speakers!” says Colin. “The power and quality of everything we heard from such compact cabinets was extraordinary.”
Orders were placed for both point source and line array systems: 4 x P12s with 4 x L15 subs and 24 x GEO M10 line array elements with 12 x MSUB15s. With phase coherent presets for all NEXO systems, amplification and processing for all boxes comes from NEXO NXAMP4X4MK2 powered controllers.
Coinciding with delivery, the NEXO Engineering Support team arrived on-site to train the MSP team. “And that’s pretty much the only time the NEXO gear has been in the warehouse” reports Colin. “It went straight out to the Speedy Hire Expo 22 at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, then on to the World Gymnastics Championships at the same venue.
“The NEXO system sounded fantastic on both jobs and was easy to transport and rig, which is important for a business like ours. And we get great service from NEXO, from help with NS-1 software-based system designs through to highly responsive technical support. It’s like being part of a family.”
So, is it safe to assume that the days of live streaming are a distant memory now? “Not at all” says Colin. “Our conference clients love that we can deliver world-class NEXO sound to the attendees in the room, while reaching thousands more remotely with a live stream.”
