A UK-first as EPS deploys Sound xR for immersive Delicate Sound of Pink Floyd tribute shows

In a UK first and just days after attending training sessions at the NEXO campus in France, the team at Oxford-based Event Production Services deployed a NEXO DME10 Immersive Audio Processor for tribute shows by The Delicate Sound of Pink Floyd at Radley College in Abingdon.

Three gigs over the weekend of March 27th and 28th featured fully immersive Sound xR sound with FOH engineer Asa Holbrook of Signature AV mixing over 60 inputs on a Yamaha DM7 into 30 feeds for the DME10 which rendered a 3-Dimensional, Sound xR Image object-based mix to 21 speakers, delivered by a NEXO GEO M6 FOH PA, NEXO ID24 / IDS110 Surround Fills and NEXO P12 Lip Fills, with amplification and processing from NEXO NXAMP Powered TD Controllers.

In a performance described by audience members as ‘flawless’, monitor mixing including in-ears for all 11 band members was handled by EPS-owner Robert Nisbet along with video cues, while Tom Russell of Trussell Tech undertook the majority of the DME set up. Cameron Blue took care of lighting design and operation with lasers supplied by Reach Lasers.

“The tribute market has more than its fair share of Pink Floyd acts, so when we began working with The Delicate Sound of Pink Floyd, we knew we needed to offer something extra to stand out” reports Robert after the final show.

“The band are an incredibly talented group of musicians, but to find a foothold in this crowded market they knew how essential a USP would be.  When we suggested trialling an immersive audio set-up, the band were very supportive, allowing us complete freedom in our treatment of the show.

“With a short lead time to develop our plans we were keen not to overstretch, but the support from NEXO meant that we were able to deliver a show which exceeded our own expectations – it’s not often you see the Front Of House engineer dancing on the seats in excitement having pulled off a UK first!”
