Stronger than Metal is the motto of the Z!Live Festival in Zamora, Spain, where thousands of fans enjoy a three-day line up of traditional, thrash and power metal bands.
Of particular appeal is the unique design of the festival which creates a more intimate, up-close feel, enhanced by the adjacent Silver and Copper stages where bands perform alternately with just 10 minutes between sets.
While providing non-stop entertainment for fans from a line up including headliners Opeth, Saxon and Epica, this configuration did present an interesting challenge for the team at Swing Electroshow who rigged the PA for the festival.
Ultimately, the AV technology and production specialists based in nearby Valladolid chose to deploy their NEXO STM line array system, with three identical hangs of 9 x STM M46 Main and B112 Bass elements and 3 x STM M28 down fills, one each on the left and right of the stages, and another in the centre between the two.
“The central cluster operated at all times along with either the right or left array and the other switched off, depending on which stage was being used” reports Swing Electroshow owner Manuel Rodríguez.
“The complete system was set up with Dante and we had separate FOH mixing positions for each stage, using an AuviTran Audio ToolBox to convert from MADI or other protocols if required by the various mixing consoles used by different engineers.”
A total of 30 x STM S118 subs were stacked across the front of the stages, with a further 12 x STM M28s used for front fills and NEXO Alpha for stage side fills. Amplification and processing came from racks of NEXO’s NXAMP Powered TD Controllers.
“Along with the power and coverage, NEXO STM gave us the modularity we needed to configure a high-performance system for this dual stage format” says Manuel in conclusion. “And STM performed faultlessly throughout the festival.”
