Located in the city’s Raval district, The Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) hosts exhibitions, debates, festivals, concerts, film cycles, courses and lectures around the core themes of the city and urban culture.
The CCCB features a variety of event, hospitality and learning venues including the Hall, a 730 square metre space with a capacity of around 400 people.
A recent public tender for a new sound system in the Hall required that it should be powerful and versatile enough to accommodate all types of performances without the need to hire in supplementary equipment. The contract was awarded to Barcelona-based event technology specialists Imesde who installed a NEXO system.
“The original tender specified a line array system from another manufacturer but, working with NEXO’s NS-1 system configuration and prediction software, we were able to show that a NEXO GEO M10 system with L20 subs matched all the necessary performance criteria at an optimal ratio of quality, performance and price” reports Jordi Vaquero Pujagut from NEXO’s Spanish distributor Soundmeans. “In fact, the difference in price more than covered the cost of installation.”
The full system at the CCCB comprises 5 x 2-box clusters of GEO M10 modules, 3 above the stage and 2 delays at the mid-point down the room. Six of NEXO’s mighty L20 subs provide a low-end punch down to 28Hz with 4 of NEXO’s ID24s arranged across the front of the stage for front fills. Amplification and processing for the full system is provided by NEXO NXAMPMk2 Powered TD Controllers.
“The customer requisites were very clear, and the GEO M10 fitted them perfectly, having a compact system that’s powerful and provides optimal coverage, while keeping the cost down” reports Imesde Audio Engineer and Project Manager Marc Parareda.
“They have to use it for many different activities, from film festivals to concerts. Paired with L20 subwoofers it is a really versatile system that can provide enough power for any situation with optimal coverage throughout the whole venue.
“Soundmeans helped us design a system that fitted all the customer needs, doing simulations with NS-1, as well as setting up and configuring the system.
“The customer is really happy, as the system works great in all situations, from talks and presentations to concerts. The system offers optimal results for all jobs, with clear sound and enough power when needed.”
