Maltese events and AV technology specialists Powerhouse has installed a series of ultra-compact NEXO ID14 speakers at the WWII museum in Mellieha, a popular visitor attraction in the north of the island.

Stretching almost 500m in length, a series of tunnels were dug by hand to provide air raid shelter for the residents of the village. Today, visitors can experience the austere conditions and learn what life was like in the shelters when the air raid sirens sounded, with authentic scenes recreated with mannequins and a carefully curated immersive soundscape delivered via a NEXO sound system, with relevant content addressing specific zones.

“After the first on site meeting, we knew we had to go for IP rated equipment, as the humidity below ground in the shelter is quite high at over 90%” comments Powerhouse Director and Founder Mark Vella. “So, we opted to use a total of 14 x NEXO ID14 in white finish, with screws and fittings in stainless steel.

“Special aluminium enclosures were designed by our engineers with built in dehumidifiers for the NEXO DTDAMP racks and we also installed an acrylic projection screen in an audio-visual presentation area, where additional NEXO ID14s and IDS108 subs deliver a high-impact soundtrack.”

In execution of a demanding brief with tight timelines and an installation requiring over 2km of cabling, ISO9001:2015-certified Powerhouse was able to draw on a highly experienced team of 20 AV professionals. “Working together to meet the requirements of our clients is always our ultimate goal” says Mark in conclusion. “Together, we can do great things.”
