In Lisbon, Portugal, the variable dispersion feature and low visibility of the new P12 point source cabinets were perfect for a very delicate musical recital in a house of worship.
Audio rental company ComCultura was asked to provide sound reinforcement for a lyric music concert given by a soprano accompanied by piano. The venue was a modern church (built in the 1960s), with a big, rather cavernous interior, 35 meters long, 15 meters wide and almost 10 meters high.
The challenge was to amplify the voice and enable balance with the piano that was connected to a NEXO sound system, providing total intelligibility of the instrumental part as well the singer’s recital.
Since the church is open for worship, there were restrictions in how much time was available to set up the system, as well as the visibility of the equipment, and how it could be situated within a religious place in a respectful way.
ComCultura worked closely with the singer and his music director to understand the show repertory and the dynamics of the setlist. Audio engineers concluded that it wasn’t necessary to reinforce the system with subs, so they chose to use the new NEXO P12 point source cabinets, powered by NXAMP4X2MK2 amplifiers. The design used 2x P12 cabinets for main PA. The variable dispersion of the P12 was set at 90° horizontal 40° vertical, mounted on a tripod at 1,70 m high with a delay of 3,2 ms, to deliver a sound pressure of 90dB. This was the configuration necessary to control the church reverberation. Another two P12 were used as wedge monitor for the singer and keyboard with 60º X60º dispersion.»
ComCultura is a Lisbon-based rental company that holds a lot of NEXO inventory, including the GEO M12 mid-size line arrays with MSUB15 subbass support.
