Providing audio production for a fashion show by the well-known South African retailer Edgars, Sound Stylists deployed the uber-compact iD Series loudspeakers, paired with LS18 subs, to deliver high energy sound for the catwalk.
Choosing models with 90×40 degrees of dispersion, the engineers flipped the horns to produce the 90 degrees in horizontal coverage, allowing a relatively small number of iD24 cabinets to cover the 25 metre runway.
Sound Stylists, one of South Africa’s leading audio rental suppliers, make extensive use of NEXO systems. MD Kevin Glover describes the iD Series as “perfect for this event. Due to their small size and multiple rigging points, they aren’t visible in the centre lighting truss. For low end extension, we put in 8x LS18 subwoofers, which gave the system an immense amount of low end punch.
“We currently package the iD24 cabinets 8 in a box with truss clamps and pole mounts. This creates a system that is very easy to set up and run.
We use the new NXAMP4x2Mk2 which is the recommended amp to use with the iD 24s, and load them with AES option cards. For the fashion show, the LS18 were running on a single NXAMP4x4Mk1 crossed over at 85Hz. The 4×1 is a great companion to the iD24 because, although it is a small amp occupying 2 rack units, it can run 6x iD24s per line. We ran the iD24s on the 90×40 main configuration and we crossed them at 85 Hz running them essentially in full range; despite this, there was a surprising amount of headroom.”
According to Glover, “the iD24 is a fantastic tool to have in our inventory because it can be used as a discreet wedge for corporate functions, they can be used as front fills and delays for our GEO M6 line array systems. Despite being so small, they give huge SPL relative to box size.”
