Hosted by Yamaha Music Japan on July 17th and 18th, the Garden Room in Tokyo’s upmarket Yebisu Garden Place complex was the venue for a 2-day Immersive Audio Experience in which sound rental companies, consultants and integrators came together to learn about Sound xR, the unique collaboration between Yamaha group companies to provide a full technical solution for the production and delivery of 3-Dimesional sound in installations and at live events.
With the theme of ‘Bringing immersive experiences to everyone’ and presented jointly by Yamaha, Steinberg and NEXO, the event showcased Sound xR’s seamless immersive audio workflow, from content production to mixing, control, system design, and playback.
Following an explanation of the Sound xR concept and its aim to deliver the ultimate immersive sound experience in both real and virtual worlds, delegates learned about the unique ‘one stop’ technology solution with Steinberg’s Nuendo DAW acting as the ‘production hub’ with seamless integration with AFC Image 3-Dimensional object-based mixing controlled directly from Yamaha digital mixers, processing of up to 128 channels from the new NEXO DME10 Immersive Audio Processor and delivery via NEXO powered processors and loudspeakers.
With final on-site tuning conducted by NEXO Engineering Support Director François Deffarges, a full NEXO immersive sound system designed using NEXO’s NS-1 system configuration and performance prediction software comprised 5 x P12 upper front speakers, 4 x ID24 lower front speakers, 12 x P10 surround speakers, 6 x P8 ceiling speakers, 4 x L15 corner subs and 2 x L18 centre subs. Amplification and processing for the system was provided by NEXO’s NXAMPMk2 Powered TD Controllers.
“Alongside Yamaha’s established expertise in spatial acoustics, the combination of technologies from Yamaha group companies to create a full immersive audio technical solution from production to delivery makes a very compelling proposition for event designers” commented François, speaking at the event.
“Working with our colleagues at Steinberg and Yamaha, NEXO is committed making immersive audio available to everyone by offering fully scalable processing and loudspeaker solutions.”
