Over 25,000 people packed the sports stadium of Guilin in Guangxi Province, one of the country’s most beautiful areas, to see some of Asia’s biggest stars, including Qi Qin, Liang Jing Ru, Zhang Xin Zhe and Wang Jie.

NEXO distributor Top Plot HK was there to support the high-profile event. Their experienced system technician Taylents Lam was joined by Chao Di system tech Ah Ming and NEXO’s own concert systems engineer Scott Mason.

System configuration used left and right hangs of 16x GEO D10 modules per side, outfill hangs of 8x GEO Ds per side, with 2x main RS18 stacks with 8 subs a side, and another 4x RS18 boxes per side for the outfill. PS15R2 loudspeakers were used for the centre fill system.

The left/right hangs of the main PA were set 30 metres apart, with the outfill hangs of GEO D some 12 metres wide of the main PA. This design provided ideal coverage of the 120 metre wide stadium area, described by Chao Di manager Paul Li as “perfect sound,” and greatly enjoyed by the Chinese front-of-house engineers from Beijing and Guangzhou.

Scott Mason, who regularly teaches advanced concert engineering techniques to Nexo rental partners and users, had travelled to Guilin from Beijing to position, tune and time align the system.

“Mixing Asian artists in China is a unique challenge,” says Scott. “They like very different blends of vocal to instrument in the mix and enjoy a sound that is not harsh or aggressive, especially in the hi-mid area, easy to achieve on NEXO’s very well engineered systems.”

“It is always a pleasure to support and work with NEXO distributor Top Plot and our Chinese rental partner Chao Di. They operate at a very high level, prepare and maintain their equipment immaculately, absorb new technology quickly, and are setting the new standard for concert systems and live sound in Greater China.”

Chao Di’s GEO D system continues its tour of duty in China, travelling to the city of Chengdu in Sichuan province for its next concert.
