acoustic Network, based in Hagen, Germany, is a full service provider, one of the first companies in Germany to own the NEXO STM system.  With its modularity and performance, STM was the ideal solution for concert sound in the Spielbudenplatz.

Costs had to be kept as low as possible, while, at the same time, quality had to be high to succeed with the fundraising targets of the benefit concert.   One way to save money on an open-air event is by reducing the roof load for the stage. So the Sounddesigner-Team Norbert Bund and Matthias Bader decided to fly only the STM M46 Main Cabinets (nine per side) and to stack the B112 Bass Cabinets on the stage (12 per side), arranging the S118 Subbass Cabinets as horizontal arrays in cardio mode in front of the stage (24 in total).

Coverage exactly followed the predictions of NEXO’s prediction software suite NS1. The horn design of the B112 paired with the cardio setup of the S118 subs provided a perfect sound distribution without causing complaints from residents, even though this was the first show in the venue.

The FOH Engineers of the bands were fascinated by the sound system, especially regarding the high resolution and the SPLs even though there were no bass flown. Organizers of the Elballianz complimented on the uniformity of sound over the Spielbudenplatz, while the system had to contend with wind and rain.

Klaus-Peter Hornung, CEO of acoustic NETWORK states: “Our investment, made in 2012, has proved to be absolutely right.  In this case the building-block principles of the system have made it possible to respond to the unique circumstances with exactly the right design.  The day before, we did another open-air event where the B112s were flown with the M46s.  Arriving at the Elballianz, we did the load-in at 8am and the whole PA was ready to work at 10am.  STM is clearly superior to most current Big-PA systems.”
