In a project that began in 2011 as an extension of the ‘Intaglio’ workshop at the Indianilla Station Cultural Center in Mexico City, Casa Ballena is an arts center in San José del Cabo, a small city located at the tip of the peninsula of Baja California Sur, Mexico, where the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortez.
A location that encompasses desert and beach creates an environment conducive to the development of a unique ecosystem, providing a stunning setting for a boldly designed venue offering three workshops, an exhibition space, living halls, warehouses, admin areas, several multi-purpose patios and a 7,000m2 natural area that shelters the native vegetation of the region.
On one of these patios can be found the restaurant Ballena, an international dining experience by Grupo Hunan that blends art, gastronomy and atmosphere, celebrating global flavours through refined culinary craft and coastal elegance. Each visit invites guests to connect with the beauty of the Baja peninsula through exceptional cuisine and contemporary hospitality.
Respecting the beauty of its natural surroundings, contractor Leonardo Abin at Mexico City-based audio specialists HiFi Trading selected a NEXO ID Series sound system for Ballena, with a series of compact ID24 speakers installed in pairs under the terrace roofs, with the subs hidden in custom-built structures made from local stone.
