This year, the prestigious AV Awards ceremony, hosted by the leading industry publisher AV Magazine, moved to a new, larger location in central London. Once again, the hosts asked NEXO to provide the audio systems for the event, which is attended by nearly 2000 leading professionals from the AV business.
Derby-based rental house Sound of Music took charge of audio production, choosing NEXO’s new GEO M12 mid-size line array as main PA for the gala dinner at London’s Evolution venue. Sound of Music MD Sash Pochibko admits that “delivering audio reproduction services for an event such as the AV Awards has to be one of the toughest jobs on offer. The room is packed full of opinions with extensive industry experience, the venue is a temporary structure in the middle of a major city, and there is a zoo as well as many local residences in close proximity.”
For the main system, the Sound of Music designers Mike Burwood and Ben Williamson chose the NEXO GEO M12 line array, using left/right hangs of 4x line array elements, plus 8x MSUB18s for low-frequency reinforcement. Above the stage, there was a centre fill hang of 3x GEO M10 elements, and three delay hangs of 3x GEO M10 flown at the back of the room to reinforce the audio. NEXO ID24 compact cabinets were placed along the front of the stage for front fill, and NEXO’s new P12 point-source cabinets were used for outfill. All systems were powered by NEXO NUAR amp racks, connected via a Dante network from a Yamaha CL5 console at front-of-house, where Sash Pochibko was engineering for the event.
The NEXO effect went further than the main room. 8x PS15-R2 loudspeakers flown from the lighting trusses provided the background music in the Bar area, and other PS10-R2 speakers were used as discrete audio systems for the VIP bar areas.
“Having only received positive feedback (of the complimentary type) I can only assume we did a good job!” says Sash. “The client was exceptionally pleased with the results we achieved in a new venue for their event.”
