Spanning all three floors of a beautifully restored Icelandic heritage house originally built in 1907, Reykjavík’s new Japanese restaurant Shiro comprises a main restaurant dining room, attic floor Teppanyaki restaurant, private Karaoke room and basement bar, all equipped with NEXO ID Series sound installed by local AV technology specialists Exton.
“We worked closely with the architects to design a system that would meet the necessary performance criteria for the available budget and, critically, make the lowest possible visual impact in each of the four individual spaces” reports Exton Sound Consultant / Technician Asaf Tzur.
“In the main restaurant, 5 x ultra-compact NEXO ID14s are completely invisible mounted above a Barrisol’s micro perforated stretched fabric ceiling which is almost completely acoustically transparent, with a pair of IDS108 subs hidden in the seating.
“In the attic Teppanyaki restaurant, 4 x ID14 and 2 x IDS108 subs are all attached to beams above a hanging ceiling feature, while a pair of ID24s are wall mounted and supplemented by a single IDS108 sub in the karaoke room.”
Although small, the basement ‘Seventeen’ bar also features DJ sets, necessitating a sound system with the potency to deliver a nightclub vibe when called upon.
“We installed 4 x NEXO ID24s with 2 x IDS110 subs in the bar, along with a fifth ID24 as a DJ monitor” says Asaf.
With pristine audio quality a prerequisite, the Exton team installed a Bluesound Professional 4 zones B400S streamer to deliver high-definition audio in each of the four rooms, with network control from Q-SYS providing straightforward operation of the system for restaurant staff.
Amplification and processing comes from a rack of just five of NEXO’s ultra-compact, 4-channel Powered TD Controllers.
“The NEXO ID Series is our go-to solution for applications in which the sound system must be heard but not necessarily seen” says Asaf in conclusion. “The installation at Shiro proves once again the exceptional levels of performance available from these very compact speakers.”
About the NEXO ID Series
Directivity control is key to the superior performance of NEXO’s ID Series speakers. Column, compact and super-compact speakers share the same sonic signature, making it possible to create thrilling and immersive sonic experiences in the most complex acoustic environments and where speakers are required to make a low visual impact.
Speakers and subs can be specified in black, white or custom RAL colours with a comprehensive range of mounting hardware available to accommodate installations of every scale.
Alongside NEXO NXAMPMk2 Powered TD Controllers, the 4-channel nanoNXAMP4 provides a particularly cost-effective, Dante-optional combined amplification and processing solution for NEXO ID Series systems with on-board mixer and matrix functions, plus set up and remote control enabled by an embedded web page that can be accessed via Ethernet or Wi-Fi.
