South Korean sound rental companies and engineers got to check out the new NEXO Alpha+ hybrid-source sound system at Imjingak Pyeonghwa Nuri Park in early September at a special 2-day event staged by local distributor A-Works.

Day 1 saw representatives from established South Korean NEXO rental companies including Way Audio, Plan 24 and Master Sound previewing the stackable, 3-box FOH system, taking in a demo of the Alpha+ M210’s unique variable articulation waveguide block for the continuous adjustment of vertical dispersion, and the control of horizontal dispersion using magnetic flanges.

“Our customers were blown away by the clarity and consistent coverage of the HF, even at a distance of 150 metres” enthused A-Works Managing Director James Lee. “And all this from a system that’s so quick and easy to stack and cable up.”

Alpha+ demos on the second day were attended by a wider audience of around 60 new and existing NEXO customers, including some that were still successfully deploying the original 1990’s NEXO Alpha boxes with which the new system shares much of its DNA.

“Existing Alpha users know to expect a lot of power and a long throw from the new system” continues James. “But what particularly impresses people about Alpha+ is the added precision and articulation.”

About Alpha+

Alpha+ draws on the spirit of the classic ‘90s Alpha system to create an ultra-powerful, long-throw, ‘three-box’ FOH system that combines the benefits of line source coupling with the easy deployment typical of point source speakers.

The HF dispersion control of the M210 Main module comes not from rigging angles between boxes, but from an ingenious waveguide block that can be ‘unlocked’ and its articulation changed from Narrow vertical coverage to Wide/Standard, while the continuously varying horizontal directivity can be modified using magnetic flanges.

A horn-loaded 2 x 10″ coaxially mounted with 4 x 3″ HF compression drivers, the M210 achieves an impressive 148dB peak SPL and makes its presence felt very clearly, even at the back of the venue. What’s more, it sits at the perfect height to achieve excellent audience coverage on top of B218 Bass and L20 Sub modules that extend LF performance down to 28Hz with cardioid configuration limiting spillage.

Visiting South Korean sound professionals were also able to check out NEXO’s P+ Series point source speakers deployed as wedge monitors.
