MELPOMEN TAKES ON THE BLACK ARTS WITH GEO T

A Nexo GEO T system was deployed, comprising 60 cabinets, plus 12x CD18 subs, for the opening ceremony of the festival at the Leopold Sedar Senghor Stadium. On hand were 2,500 dancers, a spectacular light show and video on large screens, percussion and artists including Angelique Kidjo, Youssou Ndour, Doudou Ndiaye Rose, Mahotella Queens, Minyeshu, Ismaël Lô, Baba Maal, Manu Dibango and the special participation of Samba Diabaré Samb, Khar Mbaye Madiaga, Alioune Samba Guissé.

Melpomen was chosen to design the sound for the opening ceremony and for the Obelisk site, the festival’s central stage, which was utilised throughout the festival. The festival provided an important opportunity to develop a partnership between the Senegalese government and Melpomen, which included the training of local sound technicians, and the sale of key audio facilities, so strengthening the Senegalese input into the festvial.
