Complying with public health regulations, the famous Palais Sommer cultural festival has been able to go ahead on the banks of the Elbe river in Dresden, Germany. Despite a drastic reduction in the number of visitors, the expansion of the audience areas to permit social distancing provided a new brief for regular technical service provider arte.complus.
This is the third year at the month-long Palais Sommer for arte.complus, itself a Dresden-based company. The free-entry festival for art, culture and education presents a very diverse range of events and art forms: arte.complus chooses NEXO sound reinforcement technology as the best all-rounder for the festival.
Jens ‘Benno’ Richter from arte.complus explains that “for the first time, we’ve deployed the new GEO M12 mid-sized line array for the main PA for an audience area of 8000 square meters. Its wide radiation characteristics and excellent rear attenuation make it ideal for the programme which includes yoga classes with teachers on headsets and up to 1000 students, as well as concerts of pop, rock, singer / songwriter, piano, choral music, classical music, jazz, spoken word and movies.”
The performance stage in front of the Japanese Palace has been doubled in width to allow space for the artists. Groundstacks of 3x GEO M1210 + a GEO M1220 are placed left and right: outfill is provided by GEO S805 and P12 cabinets. With attendance restricted to a maximum of 1000 people, many watch the concerts from an adjacent meadow, which has a delay system of GEO M620 compact line array modules. All amplifiers on the system are managed via NEXO’s proprietary NeMo remote control software.
“In fact, the new regulations have not affected our work that much,” reports Benno. “The public areas have been expanded by 2300 sq. m in order to enable social distance rules, so we had to supply the separate GEO M6 delay system, but, apart from having to disinfect the microphones every day, our work has not changed very much. No one at arte.complus is dissuaded by this crisis, we are all audio-crazy and very grateful that we remain really busy at this difficult time for the live events industry.”
