Roters took NEXO’s new wedges out on two open-air dates with BAP. On the first night, the challenge was heightened by the presence of one of Germany’s most celebrated big bands, the WDR Big Band, which was sharing the bill with BAP. The second night was in fact the first night of BAP’s 2011 ‘Die Klassiker’ tour.
The WDR Big Band brought its own monitor engineer Philipp Skiba to handle stage sound for them, and, after a few checks, agreed to use the N-12s. “We were recording the concert, using, amongst others, double-membrane condenser microphones right in front of the monitors. Because of the focussed dispersion of the N-12s, this presented no problem. Although we used four N-12 monitors, coupled together in pairs, from the TV camera position (and that of the audience), they looked unbelievably small, thanks to their super-low profile and unique shape.”
Reiner Roters, using them on-stage with BAP, also gave the thumbs-up. “The N-12s are definitely among my favourites and will go on my preferred list. As well as offering huge advantages of flexibility and arrayability, they offer a ratio between weight, dimensions and output that is setting a new standard. They are virtually plug and play – they come up ready to go; when you turn them on, a few small adjustments on the channel strip EQ and you’re off!”
